The following message is from the desk of Brother Walt Stanton "Waldo"
Many members have asked the question, "What is M.A.F.?" M.A.F. stands for Members Assistance Fund. We had to start the fund because of legalities involved with using Union Dues Money for any reason other than conducting union business. We can no longer take money out of the general fund to help our members in their time of need as we have in the past so all the money that is used to help our members during difficult financial times has to be donated to the fund by our members or any other person who is willing to donate to the cause. We pass the hat at meetings when we know of a member who needs help but we also take money that is donated to the fund to buy food gift cards to help some of our members who fall on hard times to help make ends meet. Any donation you can afford to make to the fund will be greatly appreciated not only by me but the people you help during their time of need. Let's show all our members that their well being matters to all of us and we all care by giving as much as we can afford to the fund. We barely get money in the fund and it all seems to go out faster than we can bring it in. If anyone even has an item they would like to donate that we can sell or raffle off to help generate more funds for the cause, we are interested in these kinds of donations also. Sometimes we have to think outside the box to accomplish our goal of helping every member who has a need so we are open to suggestions from our members on ways to build the fund into a viable account that is capable of helping all members and their families get back on their feet after going through extreem hardship financially.
Any one interested in donating to M.A.F. can do so by addressing it to M.A.F. c/o Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local 5 and it will be deposited in the apropriate account.
Thank You All For Your Support,
Waldo
