In Memoriam

This page is dedicated to my good friend William P. Kearns who was born on September 19th, 1944 and passed away on March 19th, 2010. I wanted to post a memoriam for him and realized we did not have a proper page for memoriams. We will post memoriams for members as we receive notification of a death. "R.I.P."
This is one memoriam I never expected to have to write. Walt Stanton was a man who was so unselfish, he only cared about the plights of many of our Local 5 Brothers and their families. There was no limit to the generousity he displayed in public as well as privately touching lives of members and their families. He not only founded the M.A.F. which stands for Members Assistance Fund but he also funded it out of his pocket by donationg valuable coins from his coin collection to be offered in raffles to raise money for the fund. I will never forget the Morgan Silver Dollar he gave me when I first met him while working on an outage at S.O.N.G.S. He found out my youngest daughter likes to collect coins and from that point on, he made certain he got her a new set of the latest coin proofs every year incuding all the state quarters as they were minted. When I write or announce the loss of a member on this page whether they are a friend or not, I am touched by the loss to our local but most of all, I feel grief for the familys of the members we lose along the way. I could write a book about the generousity of Brother Walt Stanton but the best dedication we can give him as fellow members of Local 5 is to permanently change the name of the fund founded by our lost brother from M.A.F. to the Walt Stanton Fund. He already had a page on our site called the Waldo Fund. That page will be on our site for as long as we maintain a website in our local. We will continue to meke fund drive announcements on that page but the only difference willl be that Walt Stanton will not be the one responsible for the announcements. Brother Walt Stanto left behind shoes that can't be filled by any one person. It will take a collective effort of several people to carry on the task that Brother Walt Stanton took upon himself and was making rapid progress. R.I.P
